Introduction
Nurse is a very in-demand occupation in Canada. Institutions in Canada such as hospitals and nursing homes are suffering from a shortage of nurses for a long time. The outbreak of the COVID epidemic exacerbates the shortage of nurses. According to the Canadian Nurses Association, Canada will have a shortfall of 60,000 nurses in 2022. Therefore, nurse immigration is a very popular program in Canada.
Nurse Catedories
There are two main categories of Canadian nurses:
- Professional paramedics, generally referring to Nursing Care Aid or Nursing Care Assistant. Nursing assistants typically work in nursing homes, chronic disease intensive care units in community hospitals. Job reponsibility is generally life assistant. Nursing assistants are not officially registered as professional nurses.
- Professional nurses. Professional nurses are divided into three categories according to their duites:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or PN): After one and a half to two years of college diploma education, the applicant needs to pass the Canadian LPN Exam.
- Registered Nurse (RN): After 4 years of undergraduate education, the applicant has more comprehensive and profound medical knowledge.
- Registered Psychiatry Nurse (RPN): A nurse who has studied and specialized in the care of mentally ill patients, typically working in a mental hospital.
Requirements
Nurses immigration programs are varied:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program:
- Applicant is a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- At least 1 year of full-time work experience in the nursing field in the past 10 years, or accumulated part-time work experience of the same time
- Language score CLB 7
- High school degree or above, ECA qualification is required for overseas study outside Canada
- Express Entry (EEBC) health care categories:
- Applicant is a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Having a long-term full-time job offer in a public health facility and job duty is nurse-related
- At least 2 years of full-time work experience in the nursing industry, or an equivalent period of part-time work experience. The previous job has the same NOC as the job offer you have
- Language score at least CLB 4 (NOC is Category B)
- When the applicant is a midwife, a confirmation letter from the BC Vocational Group is required
- Provincial Nominee Program for High Demand Occupation Category in NS Province:
- Applicant is a Nursing Assistant, NOC 3413
- Aged between 21 and 55 years old
- Have a full-time permanent offer from a local employer, working at least 30 hours per week
- At least 12 months of work experience in the past 5 years, and the working hours is not less than 1560 hours
- At least high school education and completion of relevant vocational training
- Holding a professional qualification certificate, if it is not a Canadian degree, it needs to be assessed by a professional assessment agency
- A minimum score of CLB 4 in English or French
- Provide a reason for living in NS, you need to write a detailed explanation letter
- Proof of funds of at least CAD 11,000, plus CAD 2,000 for each additional applicant
- Ontario’s Shortaged Vocational Skilled Immigrant Program:
- Applicant is a Nursing Assistant, NOC 3413
- Full-time and long-term offer from a local employer with median salary
- At least high school degree or above, if it is not a Canadian degree, it needs to be assessed by a professional assessment agency
- Language score at least CLB 4
- At least 9 months of work experience in the past 3 years, and the work place must be in Ontario
